If you like Ultimate Wolverine, all power to you, but I think my issue with this series compared to the rest of the new Ultimate lineup is that it’s just… generic? It’s just way too similar to the regular 616 X-Men.
Wolverine as the Winter Soldier is a good idea for the new universe, but they didn’t commit to it. He was basically just 616 Logan before the brainwashing, and now he’s basically the same after. So, not too dissimilar to Weapon X. And now he’s just fighting with all of the X-Men (except those who are dead) as a resistance unit for mutantkind.
Entirely new universe and this is just the regular X-Men, but in Russia/Eurasia, and with more gore and deaths. This Beast looks and acts exactly like 616 Beast. This Gambit is basically 616 Gambit with an eyepatch, etc.
Yep. They had a golden opportunity to do something truly different. Something that could’ve competed with Absolute Batman, but instead they decided to play it safe for some reason.
In Uncanny X-Men #284 – the arc that introduced Mikhail Rasputin – there was a Russian island with a portal to another dimension.
What if the Maker used it as a prison dimension for powerful mutants he deemed too dangerous? Krakoa, the externals, apocalypse, magneto, Xavier, Cassandra nova, emplate, Romulus, gorgon ECT.
Imagine an alternate version of the 616 krakoa where the most powerful/dangerous mutants were preparing to fight the maker and his allies for years.
Imagine if wolverine’s memory was erased to protect the secret of krakoa from the maker and his allies, but ended accidentally being captured and used as a weapon for the Rasputins. Once Logan recovered his actual memory, his real mission would begin, but he’d be all alone, one man against the government.
