Right now, Peter being a perpetual failure locks his character into an infinite spiral of pointlessness, and there’s no real development.
Yeah, I totally agree with you on that. It’s like the only way they can write Peter is if he’s always struggling uphill or getting kicked around. Spider-Man is only the most popular Marvel comic book character of all time and undoubtedly Stan Lee’s greatest contribution to the comic book industry, yet every writer goes out of their way to treat him like crap or have his life so blatantly miserable, it’s a miracle he hasn’t become a supervillain by now.
Iron Man’s an arrogant douche, always has been, who caused one of the biggest fallouts in Marvel Comic history with Civil War, and has caused just as much problems as he’s solved, yet somehow, he always lands on his feet and moves forward. Why can’t Spider-Man be successful in life, love and heroics?
I think that’s the only reason why I’m still reading Spider-Man’s comics is because I’m anticipating things finally turning around for him. That maybe each issue will bring him that much closer to finally coming out on top instead of being kicked to the curb.
I agree that he has constantly been put down by the writers. With him losing his job here though, I think it’s just temporary in order to give him a challenge. Just like when you have relationship problems, but you can still get things in order.

It was a slow , but overall good issue, I still on the fence and think Raelith will not end up with peter in the long term, she already say she do not love him and she should be long gone before the #1000 issue , even if it not MJ or Felicia getting back, I believed peter will get an upgrade from alien girl, and get a better partner down the line , he deserve it !!

This was a decent way for Spider-Man to get back into the swing of his life. After all, it wouldn’t be a typical Spider-Man morning if he didn’t get an existential warning from the past by a magical illusion of Dr. Strange from the past after defeating a symbiote and a serial killer simultaneously.
Nice to see that Raelith is still going to be on Earth, along with the rest of Parker’s motely crew of space misfits. She reminds me of Starfire in her naive adorability but with a more inclination towards violence. See that chess game with the Thing and Symbie, as well as seeing Johnny being jealous of Spider-Man, had me laughing. Come to think of, between the two, I think Spidey’s definitely had the hotter more memorable girlfriends than Johnny has ever had. That statistic would probably make him burn green with envy if that was ever realized.
I think Kintsugi is cool. Like having a mini-Captain America in Spider-Man’s corner. I find it refreshing for there to be a new Spider-Man sidekick/family member that is more original than having Spider powers. I’m hoping that they delve more into Kintsugi’s background and what his abilities might be. Is he just a kid with a shield and a costume or is there more to him, like tech or skill? Either way, this kid I think proves how Spider-Man’s unending ability to do good for nothing greater than its own sake has the longstanding ability to affect and influence others and therefore impact the world.
Oh. I was hoping for an actually Japanese character, but it is what it is. I still find Kintsugi to be a cool character with an interesting concept, so I hope he has good development and writing with Spider-Man.
I come from a predominantly Asian family from Hawaii and one thing I’ve noticed in Marvel comics is the sore lack of positive Japanese male characters among Marvel’s superheroes. There’s a lot of them in Manga, but not in Western comics. Plenty of Japanese females, no arguing that, but I think it would be nice to have a strong male Japanese character instead of so many Western characters who somehow are better at Japanese-style martial arts and traditions than actual Japanese.
Yeah I agree Johnny has never had a longterm actually good love interest that stuck the same way every other hero has had. He’s had small stints with Crystal, Medusa, Alicia, and some skrulls
I think it would be a really interesting thing for Johnny’s character if he did find “the one” or someone who he was actually serious about, then, like every other worthwhile hero, he experiences some kind of profound heartbreak with her. That would add some much-needed depth to Johnny’s character that his moustache simply can’t make up for.

At least they made her bi instead of doing the complete 180 they did with Iceman, who they suddenly made gay.
