Nope. Even after re-vamping her as a mutant, Kamala Khan still has absolutely no appeal to me. Everything about her, from her powers to her personality, is just too damned bland and boring. And this whole thing with trying to pass her off as having some kind importance in some of the biggest events in the X-Men’s history feels like a sheer desperate attempt to try and jumpstart her popularity. Everything about her just feels like a poorly made knock-off.
First they made her some kind of half-inhuman half-assed female imitation of Mr. Fantastic that rides on Carol Danvers’ hero name. Then they change her into a mutant and tried to give her some connection to Krakoa. Then they had her die, or something like that, and had all these heroes and people react to it like she was so impactful in their lives. Now, they tried this, as though somehow she’s so important to the existence of the X-Men, even though they were able to overcome all these harrowing challenges before without her. Not to mention the fact that her own recent comic title only lasted like ten issues, and that was boring as watching paint dry.
I don’t know why Marvel is trying so hard to make this character work, but they really should give up. Nothing they’ve done has made this character popular, and even after this, that’s not going to change. I know they’re still going to try, but I feel like it’s pointless.
I don’t hate the character, but I agree that Marvel is tryingย way tooย hard to make her an X-Man. This has got to be one of the worst X-events I’ve ever read.
Well, good for you if this character has any kind of appeal because that means Marvel must be doing something right, but I just find her pretty boring. Personal failing on my part if I just can’t see what it is that’s supposed to be appealing about her.
If I’m being totally honest, it actually feels like I’m reading someone’s self-insert fanfic character that they just slapped into these major events involving the X-Men. Out of all the other characters in Marvel who would probably have more popularity if they had more focus on them, I don’t get why they’re trying so hard with her.
