Right? How can they expect people to keep reading this if all they do is make people feel like crap for reading it? Life is depressing enough as it is without getting into a comic book to make you feel worse.
Give me a what if Spidey and Mj had their daughter may born/not kidnap back in 96 with a happy ending or a what if with peter and felicia or captain marvel relationship.
A few depressing issues now and then is fine, but it needs to be offset with some unexpected twists that leave an opening into what could be another story, or some kind of happy ending. I’ll even take a twisted, creepy ending over a depressing one.
Here’s one: “What if Frank Castle Died with His Family?”, and it shows a story of his wife becoming some version of the Punisher or “What If Mary Jane became Spider-Man”? There’s literally an infinite amount of possibilities for different stories to do with these characters, but they don’t have to make us feel bad about reading them.

Why are these “What If?” stories almost always so damned depressing? I don’t why I take my chances reading them; it’s always a crapshoot and I almost always never get the outcome I bet on.
