A very flat ending to one of the most disappointingly frustrating comics this decade. Barely any focus on peter and the whole series felt like it lacked direction and impact, each cover and story line set up was misleading, felt more like the harry, gwen and richard show then peter parker. And no real feeling of stakes considering everyone made it out just fine besides gwen ig. Very disappointing and only barely better then asm with the bar already being very low. 5/10 on Ultimate Spider-man by Hickman and Checcheto.

This book was Superior to anything 616 Spider-Man books has done in over a decade. It was also Amazing, Spectacular, and Friendly. Yet, sadly Absolute.

Here’s to 616 writers and editors getting their heads out of their asses and give us the ongoing Spider-Man book we want.

And so ends the greatest comic book ever written…. This entire issue is just them messing with us and reiterating one last time how evil they are by publishing One More Day. The story, the real world pacing, the art, the characters, the complexity, nuance, the Paper, family, enemies, friends, relationships, every single thing about this series has been perfect. I’m so sad that they couldn’t do more with this, continue it, and have a longer ongoing series that had the same longevity and impact the original Ultimate universe had, but I’m content with this. The worst aspect of this entire run is that it was going to end one day. Now i just think about all the what ifs: What if they bring 616 Peter and MJ back together, and how will this run’s impact affect decisions made in 616? What would this story be like if Donny Cates had written it like he was supposed to before his untimely and unfortunate accident? Or if they went with Chip Zdarsky instead of Hickman? An incredible run ruined only by the potential of what could’ve been.

Greatest comic ever written?!

Also I don’t think Hickman was messing with us. He wants PP and MJ together. He was pointing out how stupid OMD was/is!

I feel like this is a great ending IN ISOLATION. Some of it just feels unearned, and there are a lot of unresolved plotlines and setups that aren’t ever going to get revisited.

Of course, this isn’t Hickman’s fault, as reports are that he planned the broad strokes of the run with the idea that Marvel was going to continue with the Ultimate Universe (so another writer was going to pick up Ultimate Spider-Man after him). And it’s likely that this last issue got delayed by a lot because he wanted to put more of a bow on the whole run to make it a more definitive end. But there’s only so much you can do. Still very much like the run as a whole though.

Let us all observe a moment of silence for the end of “Ultimate Spider-Man”.

(One Moment Later….)

Seriously, this comic title was the most outstanding of all the current Ultimate Comics, as far as I’m concerned. And in all honesty, I’m actually a bit sad that it’s come to an end. Every member of this team involved with this comic deserves a f*cking award for how magnificently they delivered. This comic blew everything that has currently been done with the mainstream Spider-Man over the last couple of years right out of the damned water. It actually makes me so disappointed that this is not the Earth-616 comic. How they portrayed the characters, handled the relationships, the hero/villain dynamics, it was all so beautifully done.

The last issue of any arc is always important, and this was so outstanding that I think Sony Pictures Animation Studio needs to do an “Ultimate Spider-Man” movie series. Peter’s last battle against the Kingpin was outstanding. Wilson Fisk and Martin Li’s death was not only cathartic, but the overall method in which they took each other out was so on point for both their characters that it was the perfect death for them together.

Gwen’s life was still a tragedy, but in a very different, horrifying sense that it truly makes me feel pity for Harry. For the first time ever, I can honestly say I that I not only don’t hate Doc Ock, but I think he was awesome in this incarnation. That part with Richard Parker saving the world while kissing Felicia, that was such an awesome boss moment that it deserves its own animated scene. The only thing I think that could have made this issue even better was if May got some more face time. She’s just so dang adorable and the scenes that she had with her dad in earlier issues were incredibly endearing.

Finally, and definitely the most important aspect of this entire comic line and unquestionably the center of Peter Parker’s existence in this universe: his relationship with Mary-Jane. This is the kind of relationship Earth-616 Peter Parker deserves to have after everything he’s been through, but for some stupid reason is always denied. Their relationship throughout this entire comic line was amazing. MJ was definitely Peter’s rock through all the hardship and insanity he was fighting against. And it wasn’t just the fact that Peter was finally married to MJ (like he should have stayed), but it was also the fact that MJ is a strong woman who helped keep her family together, not some damsel in distress, or a distressing damsel. Seeing that scene back when they were obviously in college and decided to spend the rest of their lives together, that was the best show of one of the most iconic romances in all of comics.

And now, because I’m petty, vindictive and an all-around Spider-Man fan, I have one more thing to say in closing to my little fanboy rant: Zeb Welles can suck it. After everything he did to literally ruin Spider-Man, this actually helped me to forget he ever existed and makes me hope that one day Earth-616 Spider-Man can catch up to this level of being awesome.

Well that was a solid ending to a…decent…story?

I really don’t know how I feel about it. Nothing bad, but nothing particularly great?

6 out 10 feels too low, but a 7 feels to high. So 6.5, but I can’t do that sooo…

The only thing I really liked was Checchetto’s art. Definitely one of my most favorite artists right now. He should be getting more glaze than Dan Mora.

I also really like stories that put a lot of effort into creating interesting and likeable characters, along with great relationship dynamics.

This run has definitely solidified Peter and MJ as one of my most favorite comic book couples, up there with Lois & Clark, Dick & Barbara, and Sue & Reed.

Still don’t see why this run got so much of the love it did when it was first releasing. Was it just the fact that they saw Peter in a happy relationship and that was enough to satisfy them?

I feel like you hit the nail on the head. With how 616 is going I really do feel like this series was looked at extremely well because people wanted to see Peter and MJ so badly. I see tons of people on Reddit talking about their relationship and how cute they thought it wasโ€ฆ but not the story lmao ๐Ÿ˜‚. Sure I know some must be but overall I mostly see people clamoring for that MJ and Peter romance and this gave them that
